STRIKEBOLT | SUMY

Strikebolt is a member of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade and like many young men, joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine the opening days of Russia’s invasion. He participated in the hasty defense of Ukrainian cities as Russian soldiers and columns descended upon them.

As the war continued and lines became more stabilized, Strikebolt would take part in several key battles the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade participated in to include Bakhmut and Avdiivka. The 3rd SAB had crucial roles during these battles, one of which was to hold the city of Avdiivka which proved to be successful, disrupting Russian supply and logistics lines. The second was to defend and hold the Road of Life, the main supply route running into the city of Bakhmut which was heavily contested and under the threat of encirclement.

Strikebolt would later be wounded in action, still receiving treatment today for his injuries. During an operation he came upon the corner of the street, and as he turned his head, a round hit him in the side of the head, sending him to the ground immediately. Had he not turned his head when he did, the round would likely have been a fatal shot. Blood ran down his face, his jaw broken, he crawled away from where he was struck and his comrades pulled him to safety. 

It would be several hours before he was MEDEVAC’d out of the area, losing a significant amount of blood. Despite the trials and horrors of the war and its duration, Ukrainian soldiers like Strikebolt remain motivated and willing to fight. 

An interesting side story, when he was in the hospital recovering, he was unable to chew solid food and was fed a liquid diet, while in the hospital he craved McDonald’s, so a good friend of his brought it and he jokingly said “Fucking shit! Throw that shit in the blender.”
