𝑳𝒆𝒔 𝑬𝒏𝒇𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒅𝒖𝒔 ~ MEDIK | SUMY -

Medik was working with a GUR team at the time of the Kursk Incursion. Given the scope and severity of the operation, many of its architects and planners were tight-lipped, the result was not only a good masking from the true intents of the Ukrainian military that was amassing in Sumy, but also served as a surprise to soldiers of its own forces. 

Medik was already working with Ukrainian GUR forces in Sumy at the time of the attack, with a different operational mission. As H-hour hit, he witnessed large scale drone attacks, intense artillery shelling and a steady stream of armored vehicles moving towards the border. “It was nothing like I’d ever seen before.”, which speaks volumes considering his time in service going back to 2014. As the attack began Medik’s commander quickly reached out, ordering him and his team to reorient and begin a second mission in direct support of the incursion.

His team began supporting ground operations, moving towards a Russian defensive position on a flank, a Russian SOF element was confirmed to by hiding out in a building nearby that was already partially destroyed. On the assault up to the building they encountered a few hastily dug trenches and were met with some Russian resistance from what appeared to be Russian regulars. 

The Ukrainian soldiers killed the defenders and began occupying those positions when grenade suddenly went off near the flank. They had already cleared the position and a friendly element had come to cover their right flank, so they had assume that the newly arrived element was mistaking them for an enemy combatant. A second grenade went off. “Stop throwing fucking grenades! You are targeting friendlies!” A soldier shouted through the radio. The response came back, “That is not us! We are holding!”, moments later a third grenade went off near the Ukrainian soldiers. 

Someone shouted “Wait, listen.”moving and grumbling could be heard from a nearby trench. Medik peeked over and saw a Russian survivor lying on his back closest to the wall of the trench, partially concealed by dirt and a body. He scrambled to pull the pin on the fourth grenade but was quickly neutralized by Med1k. 

This is a short, brief snippet of Medik’s time in the AFU, Medik has served in Ukraine’s military since 2014, fighting from the Donbas War to present day.
